Week 9 - and finally......

The new front door - undercoated.

The usual Saturday line up asking for money. Unusual for Su to be in this line up, she normally just helps herself..

Week 9 - The side extension

The walls finished and the floor joists are in.

Week 9 - The interior

I hope these pictures give you some idea of the size of the space we will have. Cloud formation is a real concern. The decorators are all over the flat - painting everything white.

Week 9 - The glass arrives

The highlight of the week was the arrival of the glass. The french doors for the old lounge, bedroom 3 and Su's study are in, but the star of the show is definately the new lounge. It is going to look stunning.

I should have done this sooner.....

This is a plan of the flat as it was before the work started. Ignore the blue lines, they were early idea for the extensions.

This is the plan that the E E of E finally deigned to let us have. The side exension was to be knocked down and rebuilt in brick, the area at the back was remodelled, and the lounge extension was the major work.

This is the same plan with some idea of how we would use the space. For some reason the blog stubbornly refused to publish this the right way up, so I hope you don't hurt your neck trying to read it upside down. It is not worth reading anyway - just our notes on things we needed to do.

Sorry about the quality - no rostrum camera. The funny shadows are me taking the pictures.....

Week 8 - Other stuff

Everywhere you look there are piles of stuff. What do they do with it?

The megaflow and boiler (for the second week running). The heating is fully tested out and working now.

The mess down the side by the upstairs flats - Project 1 will clear all this up.

Week 8 - Progress on the rear extension

As we now have 2 extensions, I will call them the rear and side extensions from now on. I wouldn't want you to get confused.

I know I keep saying this, but now you can see what it is going to look like. In these shots we have put real people in the shots (well Dudley, Steve and Damien anyway) to give you a sense of scale. Next week the glass may arrive...

Week 8 - The side extension goes up

The walls are almost up. That was quick!

Week 8 - Lounge Fireplace

They come to fit the new Lounge fireplace, and find the original fireplace behind the grate. We will probably keep it open and leave out the grate, what do you think?

Week 7 - And finally.....

The roofers celebrated the completion of the roof in the time honoured fashion by setting fire to it... Luckily they managed to put it out before it got too serious - thanks to the lightning reactions of Damien. And the new front door arrivedAdd Image.

Week 7 - Lots of other things happening..

The megaflow and boiler are installed, the plastering in the back moves on, the decorating continues in the front and to top the week... A rare photo of the Damien, caught here in classic pose with phone in ear. As soon as he saw us, he darted back into the shadows. Rumour has it that he is still pining over the loss of his Little Orange Digger.

Week 7 - Work starts on the side extension

After weeks going through the formalities of a Party Wall Agreement with our neighbours, the foundation have been dug, and the steel support beams are in. At last!

Week 7 - The extension gets a roof

This week the roof has gone on, and the joists are in. You can begin to see the scale of the extension now. Very exciting.
